So this asian casting audition started out like any other nerve-wracking afternoon, me sitting on that worn leather couch just trying to remember the lines I’d rehearsed in the mirror that morning, but the guy behind the camera had this calm way about him that made the whole room feel less clinical than I expected. He asked me to loosen up, told me to move however felt natural, and before I knew it I’d ditched the stiff posture and was leaning into it, letting my hair fall loose and my breath get shallow. What surprised me most was how quickly the nervous energy turned into something warmer, heavier, a kind of buzzing under my skin I couldn’t ignore. When he finally stepped out from behind the lens and knelt in front of me, I remember the carpet burn on my knees later and the way his hands felt sure and slow, unhurried like we had all day. I ended up on my back at one point, staring up at the ceiling fan spinning lazy circles while my thoughts went fuzzy and bright, and then later on my stomach with my cheek pressed into the cushion, just riding the rhythm of it, not performing anymore, just feeling. That finish snuck up on me honestly, this full-body shudder that left me laughing and breathless and weirdly proud, like I’d discovered something about myself I hadn’t known was there. I sat up afterward with my makeup smeared and my heart still hammering, and we just grinned at each other like two kids who’d gotten away with something.
